The 4 certainties for Brisbane verus Collingwood

2024-03-28T12:00+11:00

Back for another year, the SEN.com.au team gives you an insight into how every game will play out across the weekend.

Labelling something a ‘certainty’ in any sport is fraught with danger.

But we’ll attempt to find some anyway.

Here is what we consider certainties for the Round 3 Thursday night clash between Brisbane and Collingwood.

Brisbane

Charlie Cameron to kick multiple goals

Charlie Cameron loves playing Collingwood, loves playing at the Gabba and loves the big stage.

The dual-All-Australian gets all three on Thursday night. He’s kicked nine goals in his last two games against the Pies and booted multiple majors in his first five games in Brisbane last year.

Expect ‘Take me home, country roads’, to be constantly blaring out across the Gabba.

Josh Dunkley for 25+ touches, 5+ tackles

Chris Fagan looks to have decided Lachie Neale, Josh Dunkley, Hugh McCluggage and Jarryd Lyons can’t all play in the same lineup, dropping Lyons for Round 3.

It leaves Brisbane’s centre bounce midfield clearly defined and keeps a large emphasis on Dunkley to do the grunt work.

His centre bounce attendance rose to 85 per cent in Round 2, netting him 26 disposals and nine tackles against Fremantle and the Caleb Serong show.

With Collingwood’s midfield out of sorts, expect Dunkley to be among the hardest players on the ground.

Brody Mihocek to kick at least one goal

After starting the season off well against GWS kicking three goals, Mihocek hasn’t hit the scoreboard in any of Collingwood’s last two games.

The key forward was well held against the Swans in Round 1 and while he played well against St Kilda grabbing 13 disposals, wasn’t able to goal.

Since his career has begun, Mihocek has never gone three games in a row without kicking a goal and don’t expect that to happen here.

He’s also kicked a goal in all eight of his career games against Brisbane so far for a return of 17 majors. He’ll add to that on Thursday.

Scott Pendlebury 20+ disposals

Collingwood veteran Scott Pendlebury has had a solid start to the season, averaging 21 disposals a game so far.

With both Jordan De Goey and Nick Daicos potentially getting some attention from Brisbane, Pendlebury could be Collingwood’s hit-to man at plenty of contests and rack up a decent amount of footy.

Tom Mitchell could also be set to play on Lachie Neale, leaving Pendlebury as the one relatively free man at the contest.

He should get to 20 disposals in a big game for his club on Thursday night.
