Aussie WWE superstar ready for homecoming

2019-05-23T16:30+10:00

The last time WWE Superstar Buddy Murphy was at the Melbourne Cricket Ground it was last October at the WWE Super Show-Down when he won the Cruiserweight Championship in front of 70,000 fans at the first ever live broadcast from Australia, and this October the WWE announced that the superstars of SmackDown Live will be returning to Melbourne as part of the 2019 tour.

"As a kid I always watched the WWE, and always dreamt of being a WWE Superstar so to go full circle and be a superstar and be in the WWE and win a championship in my home town of Melbourne - it doesn't get much bigger than that for me" Murphy told 1116 SEN, "I've wrestled at WrestleMania but winning that Cruiserweight Championship in front of my friends and family, it doesn't get any bigger than that!"

Murphy will be joined by fellow Australians and WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Billie Kay and Peyton Royce as well as superstars like Roman Reigns, Kofi Kingston, Finn Balor, Xavier Woods, Charlotte Flair, Asuka, Elias, Shinsuke Nakamura, Rusev, Kevin Owens, Bayley, and Carmella.

The Australian has been a multiple time champion during his time in the WWE and has lived his whole life as a die hard Carlton supporter and still keeps an eye on the Blues during his time in the WWE.

"The games that I have watched, we've been absolutely mauled. So we probably do a lot better when I don't watch to be honest." said Murphy, with a hint of optimism "They're getting better and they're playing better football but I haven't been back in Australia watching football for almost six years so for me to comment it wouldnt be fair!"

WWE returns to Australia this October as the stars of SmackDown Live head to Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. Tickets are on sale from 10am Tuesday May 28 from ticketek.com.au.
