Glenn Maxwell is eager to establish himself in the Australian Test side.
The fallout of the ball tampering saga has created a slew of spots in the national squads, with Maxwell named in the ODI and T20 teams for the upcoming tours of England and Zimbabwe.
The Victorian native understands how important his next string of performances will be in determining his future with the Australian side.
“From a personal point of view, this is a big part of my career where there are some opportunities in all three teams to really solidify my position for hopefully the rest of my career and really make a stand to take a spot and make it my own,” Maxwell told SEN’s Whateley.
“I’ve had the opportunity during the 2015 World Cup and after to really stamp my spot, and I’ve missed out on those opportunities.
“I’m at that age where there’s younger guys coming through where I’ve really got to make my mark on this team and hopefully I can find that consistency in England and going forward.
“With the Test side, I’m looking at Dubai later in the year where I can really make one of those batting positions my own and hopefully play my first Test on Australia soil and really hold my spot from there.
“There is a bit of work to do in India for an A tournament in August which I’m hoping to be on and put some big numbers up while I’m there.
“Hopefully I have a bit more preparation than I did for the IPL.
“I’m looking forward to getting over there and putting my name forward.”
