Former Melbourne captain Garry Lyon has put his hand up and admitted he got North Melbourne wrong.
North currently sits fifth on the ladder with wins over Sydney at the SCG, Hawthorn, GWS and Fremantle in Perth to their name.
“I got them wrong,” he told SEN Breakfast.
“Team of the year North Melbourne for mine right now.
“Fifth on the AFL ladder, I think we need a session of saying I was wrong.”
Lyon added a few Roos fans need to follow his lead and admit they were also wrong.
“We got some vitriolic feedback from North supporters when Brad Scott was re-signed, we took call after call after call,” he said.
Essendon premiership player Tim Watson said North’s success should provide hope for teams currently down the bottom of the ladder.
“What they show us is a side can make a quantum leap during the off-season like North Melbourne has,” he said.
“Next year is it going to be Carlton or is it going to be Fremantle, Brisbane or one of those other teams.”
North Melbourne take on the Lions at Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
