Carlton list manager Stephen Silvagni has slammed the “rumours” and “lies” regarding Steven Trigg’s departure from the Blues last year.
In October last year, Trigg resigned as Carlton CEO, with The Age journalist Caroline Wilson writing the treatment of Trigg was “shameful”.
Silvagni was labelled a henchman in Wilson’s article, a claim he strongly denied on Channel Nine’s Footy Classified last night.
SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.
“To be perfectly honest Caroline, I actually wanted to have this discussion with you some 12 months ago,” Silvagni said.
“You actually wrote an article that I was one of the henchmen to actually get rid of Steven Trigg, which was totally untrue.
“You actually said I was one of the henchman that I actually played a part in getting rid of Steven, which was untrue.
“Steven Trigg and myself actually had a really good relationship and I actually owe this job to Steven Trigg.
“It (the article) actually put a bit of a wedge (between us) until we actually worked out how all this sort of happened.
“It was either a rumour or lies in terms of the Steven Trigg article.”
Silvagni also said the club will “stick fat” with coach Brendon Bolton, while defending the club’s culture and list rebuild.
