Collingwood development coach Matthew Boyd has praised Darcy Moore’s attributes as a defender.
Moore has been shifted into the Magpies’ backline, having begun his career as a key forward, and Boyd has explained why the club values what the 22-year-old brings in his new role.
“I thought Darcy was really good for us last week in the backline,” Boyd told SEN Mornings.
“We've still got to remember that it’s only Darcy’s second game as a defender. I thought he did a really good job with some of his positioning and his aerial work.
“He is so athletic that once that ball hits the deck, he is able to run, carry and create for us out of the backline, which is something all defenders need to be able to do nowadays.
“It’s really important to be able to transfer that ball as quickly as you can from your back end into your forward end to give your forwards a chance.”
However, Boyd stopped short of declaring Moore will line-up against Sydney spearhead Lance Franklin tomorrow night.
“It would be a pretty juicy match-up, wouldn’t it?” Boyd said.
“Two unbelievable athletes going at it.
“They will go through the final preparations of what the actual match-ups look like today up in Sydney.
“I reckon as footy lovers, we would all like to see that.”
