How many weeks should Gaff receive? Lyon weighs in

The entire footy world is talking about the punch that left Andrew Brayshaw in hospital with a fractured jaw.

Andrew Gaff struck Brayshaw behind the play in the third quarter and Garry Lyon believes it’ll go down in the ‘Barry Hall’ category of tribunal incidents.

Hall struck Brent Staker and copped a seven-week suspension in 2008.

“It’s up in the Barry Hall category, isn’t it?” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“I think it’s somewhere between six and eight I reckon.

“If he got six, they’d have to play every week of the finals (for him to play again this year).

“Andrew Brayshaw is all we care about by the way in terms of that incident, Andrew Gaff will be dealt with by the tribunal and that’ll be his cross to bear.”

However, Lyon added this incident won’t impact Gaff’s free agency value whatsoever.

“I will say, that won’t scare one club off for one second because that is not him. This is just a fact. He’s never been suspended before,” he said.

“It means nothing because what he did was outrageous.”

Gaff is out-of-contract at the end of the season and six Victorian clubs are reportedly in the mix.
