Herald Sun journalist Sam Edmund believes Essendon could be poised to make a play for Gold Coast midfielder Jack Martin.
Martin, who’s contracted for the 2019 season, averaged 18 disposals and five tackles from 15 games this year.
“Gold Coast’s Jack Martin is a whisper that won’t go away,” Edmund told SEN Breakfast.
“Essendon’s interest has been reported, that remains solid. That footy club has a real interest in Jack Martin.
“The latest whisper is he requested a trade out of his exit interview Jack Martin, now I can’t seem to substantiate that as yet, but the jungle drums are well and truly beating.
“He’s contracted for next year too.”
Former Melbourne captain Garry Lyon says he would put Martin’s acquisition up there with Jared Polec and Aaron Hall.
“I don’t know if he’s ever been really settled at the Gold Coast,” Lyon said.
“If your club was able to access Jack Martin, I think you’ve got a big gem.”
Tim Watson believes it could be very bad news if the Suns lose Martin on top of everyone else walking out the door.
“Surely the Suns can’t allow Tom Lynch, Steven May, Hall and Martin to walk out of that club,” Watson said.
