Former host of Channel Nine’s AFL Footy Show Garry Lyon has weighed in on the new-look version of the show revealed over the weekend.
The show has been completely overhauled, with Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann set to helm the product, according to the Herald Sun.
He’ll reportedly be joined by Brendan Fevola and Aussie wheelchair tennis star Dylan Alcott.
Eddie McGuire and Sam Newman will make sporadic appearances across 2019, but will not be regulars.
“It’s a very different line-up to what the Footy Show has been historically and traditionally,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.
“They weren’t the names I would’ve been expecting.”
Co-host Tim Watson added his thoughts.
“They’ve just reinvented this show entirely, it’s not going to even resemble the old show,” he said.
However, Lyon believes they should rename the show given the overhaul.
“Well then they shouldn’t call it the Footy Show then,” Lyon replied.
Watson: “Well it’s their footy show.”
Lyon: “It’s nothing like the Footy Show.”
Watson: “The branding of the Footy Show is very strong out there in the market place.”
Lyon: “I would’ve thought they’d come up with something different for it. Come up with a fresh name for it. It’s not the Footy Show.”
