Alan Richardson says his time as a senior coach is more than likely finished.
After leaving St Kilda last month, Richardson has been the subject of interest from Melbourne and GWS with the possibility of a mentoring or coaching development role in the pipelines.
He is also being linked with a role at North Melbourne to work alongside newly-appointed Rhyce Shaw.
Asked if he has packed the idea of senior coaching away for good, Richardson said on SEN Breakfast: “Yeah, in my mind I have.
“There’d have to be some significant change for me to shift on that.”
Regarding the reasons why he has put the idea of a second senior coaching job to the side, Richardson indicated that it is time for him to move into a role that he feels he is better suited to.
“Perhaps it’s an age thing. With some younger coaches being mentioned now, Vossy (Michael Voss) for example, having a second crack as a younger man, that makes sense,” he added.
“I sense for me it’s time to perhaps be involved in supporting a coach.”
Richardson admits a support role appeals to him and says talks have commenced.
“I’ve certainly had some conversations, which has been flattering,” he said further.
“I’m quite excited, potentially, about some opportunities, but those conversations are ongoing.
“That’s the sort of role that I think I’m suited to given my experiences. There’s still a fair bit to play out there but potentially it’s something like that.”
The relationship with the new Kangaroos coach dates back to their time together at Collingwood when Richardson was in a development coaching role during Shaw's playing days.
