Brad Hill’s player manager Colin Young has confirmed the wingman’s desire to be traded.
The midfielder has enjoyed a career-best year and despite two years to run on his Fremantle contract, Young says he wants to come to Victoria.
“Unfortunately, back in June there was some noise that Brad wanted to come back to Melbourne so once that sort of got out I called a meeting with Peter Bell and had a chat with Peter just in case this did happen,” he told SEN Breakfast.
“Obviously Brad has asked to be traded back to Melbourne. We (told the football club about) it quite early to make sure they know what’s going on so back June-July Peter and I had an honest conversation that Brad for family reasons wants to move back to Melbourne.”
St Kilda has been rumoured to be the frontrunner for Hill’s services and while Young confirmed he has spoken to the Saints, he adds that there’s still a lot to play out.
“You hear six clubs all the time or that you’ve got to speak to six clubs, you generally sit down with your player and have a chat about what club he could play his best football and also sometimes the postcode, where do they want to live, it’s the whole generic sort of process,” Young said.
“We’ve spoken to Brad about a few clubs and also looked at Fremantle’s list to see what players they were looking for possibly in the trade that could facilitate a quick trade. We’ve got a couple in mind.
“We’ve had a conversation with St Kilda. I had a couple of chats with two or three clubs and then went back to Brad to see where that fits.”
Young said he and Hill do have a club in mind and that an announcement could be made as soon as next week.
“I wouldn’t think so (that Hill could return to Hawthorn). We’re down the track with another club," he said.
“I think so. I’ll probably catch up with Peter Bell next week and have a chat to see where their club is at.”
