Delisted Collingwood defender Sam Murray is “desperate” to reignite his AFL career, according to his manager Nick Gieschen.
Murray sat out the 2019 season due to an ASADA ban, after he tested positive for cocaine.
That suspension has now lifted and he is available to play in 2020, but the Pies have informed the defender that he will not have a spot on the list.
“He will be off the Collingwood list and in terms of his plans for next year, he has been training really hard the last couple of months and especially getting the good news he got a month or so ago regarding the ban,” Gieschen told Telstra AFL Trade Radio.
“He would love to continue playing footy at the highest level, so he will do everything he can over the next four to six weeks to hopefully have some conversations and make that happen.
“If not, he’s really realistic of potentially going to play anywhere that will give him the best opportunity going forward.”
Gieschen said his client has actively sought out other clubs in hopes of getting a second chance.
“Sam has been really proactive in getting on the front foot to contact a few clubs to ask about an opportunity or to I guess tell his side of the story and offer to be as honest and transparent as he can regarding the circumstances,” he said.
“He is desperate to get back and play footy at the highest level.”
Murray is one of three list changes for the Pies so far this season, with Tyson Goldsack and Daniel Wells both retiring.
