Aguero overtakes legendary strikers to break Premier League records

Sergio Aguero has overtaken Thierry Henry’s record for the most goals scored by a foreign player in the Premier League.

Aguero surpassed Henry’s tally of 175 goals after netting a hat-trick in Manchester City’s 6-1 demolition of Aston Villa on Sunday.

It took the Argentine striker 255 matches to achieve the milestone and is now equal fourth on the Premier League’s all-time leading goal scoring list with 177 alongside Frank Lampard.

Records tumbled at Villa Park with the 31-year-old netting his 12th top-flight hat-trick, overtaking Alan Shearer’s long-standing record of 11.

"He (Aguero) is a legend and the legend rose tonight,” City coach Pep Guardiola said post-game.

"I think that (Thierry) Henry is one of the most incredible players I have seen in this league and I think that he will be proud that Sergio is the guy that broke his record. He was a legend and with Sergio it's the same.

"Congratulations, and we will be congratulating him in the locker room. To score this amount of goals as a foreign player and this amount of hat-tricks means you have done, for many years, a lot of good things."

Shearer (260), Wayne Rooney (208) and Andrew Cole (187) are the only players to have scored more Premier League goals than Aguero.

City are 14 points behind runaway leaders Liverpool who still have a game in hand.
