Delisted Sun pleads guilty to drug possession

Former Gold Coast Suns player Brad Scheer has pleaded guilty to drug possession after being caught with cocaine on a night out in December.

Scheer, who fronted Southport Magistrates Court on Monday, was charged with possessing dangerous drugs and was handed a three-month good behaviour bond.

The 21-year-old will also attend a drug education program but managed to escape a fine and avoided a criminal record conviction.

Delisted at the end of last year after 13 games with the Suns, Scheer now plays for NEAFL side Southport Sharks and they pledged their support to the midfielder.

“We have been made aware of an incident last month involving new recruit Brad Scheer,” Southport said in a statement.

“After attending court this week, Brad was ordered to attend a drug education program without a conviction or fine.

“The Sharks have spoken to the player and will continue to support him throughout the process.”

Fellow former Sun Brayden Crossley, a friend of Scheer’s, was provisionally suspended and subsequently delisted for returning a positive drug test last May.
