Melbourne head of football Josh Mahoney has provided an update on the knee injury sustained by Max Gawn at training on Friday.
A scare was sent through the Dees’ camp and the football community, but thankfully the star ruckman has avoided a lengthy stint on the sidelines.
Gawn was sent for scans which determined that he will miss three to four weeks of training, but Mahoney told the club’s website that he should be good to go for Round 1.
"Max got a knock to the knee during a match simulation drill earlier today and scans have since revealed a grade two medial ligament strain," Mahoney said.
"Whilst exact timelines are yet to determined, at this stage, we anticipate he will be available for the start of the season."
The injury occurred to Gawn’s left knee, which is not the one he has had two reconstructions on.
The 28-year-old has torn his right ACL twice in his career.
