Who is the greatest Crow of all-time? Cornes makes his pick

Who is the greatest Adelaide Crows player of all-time? Kane Cornes and Andrew Hayes have had their say and attempted to split what it is an incredibly strong top two of Mark Ricciuto and Andrew McLeod.

The Advertiser recently released their list of their top 20 Crows, with McLeod on top and Ricciuto in second.

Cornes agrees with that order, but thinks he would take Ricciuto first if his team needed a leader in a big game.

“I think I would go McLeod because his record is probably better than Ricciuto’s, even though Ricciuto got the Brownlow,” Cornes told SEN SA Breakfast.

“But if I’m picking just a player for a Grand Final right now, you’d probably just go Ricciuto for that aggression and his leadership.

“As I was saying that I remembered McLeod has back to back Norm Smith Medals, but I think you got what I was saying in terms of his ability to go out there and get his whole team on his back and put his head over his footy.

“But if I’m picking the best Crow of all time, no arguments for me that it’s Andrew McLeod.”

The Advertiser’s top 20 list had Tyson Edwards in 15th spot, behind the likes of Rory Sloane, Patrick Dangerfield and Eddie Betts and Cornes feels he has been underrated.

“I think there’s one player who has been harshly dealt with here. You have to scroll all the way down to number 15 before you get to Tyson Edwards – is that fair?” he said.

“He played 321 games. I know he didn’t win a best and fairest or have an All-Australian, but was there a more consistent performer? I would have had him a little higher.”

SEN SA Breakfast co-host Hayes couldn’t pick between McLeod and Ricciuto in the end.

“I don’t think there’s a clear number one, I think there’s a clear top two and obviously that is Andrew McLeod and Mark Ricciuto,” he said.

“I don’t know which way (I’d go), you’d have to go through some minor details as to what team you’re selecting.

“If I had to pick one – I was about to say McLeod, but I think I’d go Ricciuto maybe just because of captaincy. It’s so hard for me to differentiate.

“I’d probably have Ben Hart at three and Simon Goodwin at four.”
