Gold Coast young gun Matt Rowell has taken the AFL by storm after two best on ground performances since the season restart.
Rowell is a near certainty to win this year’s Rising Star award and has been hailed as one of the best first-year players in the game’s history.
Last year’s No.1 draft pick has been pivotal in Gold Coast’s encouraging start to the 2020 season and after years of struggle there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel thanks to their exciting batch of youngsters.
Andy Maher and Bob Murphy debated on SEN’s Bob and Andy whether Rowell is in the Suns’ greatest ever side, despite playing just three games.
Maher posed the question: “If you were going to do the greatest ever Gold Coast side now, is Matt Rowell in it?”
“Yep. I think he would be,” Murphy replied.
“We all love hype but this is not just hype, it’s just solid rock. He is so good.”
Rowell starred in the Round 3 win over Adelaide collecting 20 disposals, 10 tackles and two left-footed goals.
“How did he kick that goal? He was on his wrong side; he’s got a bloke hanging off his backside,” Maher said.
“People aren’t kicking it 50 metres with their good foot at the moment. He is just ridiculously good.”
