Harry Kewell has been announced as Oldham Athletic’s new head coach on a one-year deal with an option for a second.
The Socceroos great becomes the League 2 club’s sixth manager in just two years after Dino Maamria was sacked by the Latics on Friday following a 19th-place finish in the COVID-19 affected season.
It’s Kewell’s first job since he was sacked by League 2 side Notts County in November 2018 after just 14 games in charge.
Speaking to Oldham Athletic’s club website, the former Leeds United and Liverpool star said: “I’m excited about the project and, don’t get me wrong, it’s going to take time.”
“Because the one thing I think this club does need is stability and if we can get that, then we can start to grow things.
“We’ve got to get back to the basics and we’re having a clean slate here now and I think the fans, myself, the owner, everybody wants to start seeing this club progress because we all believe that’s there’s a big potential.”
Thank you for all of the kind messages. I’m delighted to have signed as Head Coach for @OfficialOAFC. Looking forward to the challenge ahead. pic.twitter.com/dbpZO12QsN
