Matthew Nicks is enduring a nightmare first season as Adelaide’s senior coach.
The Crows are still winless in 2020 and sunk to a new low after being belted by fellow struggles North Melbourne to the tune of 69 points last time out – their ninth consecutive loss.
Speaking on SEN’s Bob and Andy, veteran South Australian football journalist Michelangelo Rucci says the Crows are guilty of not surrounding the under-fire Nicks with adequate support staff.
“Is it still an issue that things at that football club, from the top down, still need to be addressed and weren’t addressed by that external review?” Rucci asked.
“Did they get list management terribly, terribly wrong? That won’t be sorted very quickly.
“The one person you certainly can’t blame is Matthew Nicks - who probably is the least supported coach that club has had since it began in 1991.
“He has been left high and dry by a football team that hasn’t got enough talent on the park to get through to his game plan but also hasn’t got enough coaching staff to help him quickly adapt those players.
“The way in which they were carved up by North Melbourne suggests something just isn’t right about the way in which they go about their footy.”
Languishing at the bottom of the ladder, Adelaide host 15th-placed Melbourne at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday night.
