Richmond and West Coast’s twin targets up forward makes them Terry Wallace’s two premiership favourites.
Jack Riewoldt and Tom Lynch fired the Tigers to last year’s flag with Riewoldt kicking five goals in the Grand Final thrashing of GWS while Lynch booted five of his own in the preliminary final win over Geelong.
Two-time Coleman Medallist Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling combined for 91 goals when the Eagles won the 2018 premiership.
Richmond and West Coast once again loom large in 2020 and Wallace feels their firepower in attack makes them the two teams to beat.
“If you asked me who would be my two flag favourites, I still would have Richmond and West Coast – not in any order, as my two," Wallace told SEN's Dwayne's World.
“I still go back to twin key forward combinations over the years winning premierships. I was around when (Dermott) Brereton and (Jason) Dunstall were strutting their stuff, you go to the three-peat of the Brisbane Lions where it was Jonathan Brown and (Alastair) Lynch, you go to Hawthorn’s premier period of recent times with (Jarryd) Roughead and (Lance) Franklin.
"We’ve seen Lynch and Riewoldt combine together for a premiership, we’ve seen Kennedy and Darling combine together for a premiership.
“It has been historically if you’ve got those twin towers down there it is a big advantage to you. I think they’re the only two teams that we’ve got in the competition that really have that dual role absolutely locked down at the moment.
“So to me, that would have them two as marginal flag favourites for me.”
The Eagles made it seven straight wins by easily beating Hawthorn on Sunday to move into fourth spot on the ladder.
Reigning premiers Richmond sit in sixth spot ahead of Monday night’s match against Gold Coast.
