Will Jesse Hogan be at Fremantle next season?
Hogan, who is contracted for 2021, is out of favour under rookie Dockers coach Justin Longmuir despite being fully fit.
Longmuir trialled Hogan down back in a recent scratch match as he attempts to cover the loss of key defensive pillars Alex Pearce and Joel Hamling.
Deployed as forward throughout his AFL career at both the Dockers and Melbourne, should a rival club weigh up a move for the 25-year-old in the off-season?
Kane Cornes suggested that Hogan is an option worth exploring for a side like Essendon with Joe Daniher’s future at the Bombers beyond 2020 far from certain.
“He (Hogan) is fit and he’s not playing for Fremantle at the moment,” Cornes told Channel Nine’s Sunday Footy Show.
“He’s 25 years of age, you’d think that Essendon are going to lose Joe Daniher.
“If they could get him for a late pick, similarly to what Hawthorn did with Jonathon Patton, and Freo will probably pay some of that wage, is he a player that the Essendon Football Club should look at?
“Because I think he’s at least worth exploring.”
But Bombers great Matthew Lloyd would prefer his former club to blood young forward Harrison Jones instead.
“I just look at the history of players who come with baggage and I just wouldn’t take him (Hogan),” Lloyd said.
“They took a young kid (Harrison Jones) in the draft with pick 30 … and I’d like to see them really put some time into him over the next year or two.
“If he was good enough, he would be playing for the Fremantle Dockers.”
Hogan has kicked 165 goals in AFL 86 games since making his senior debut in 2015.
He's managed just 15 appearances for the Dockers since his high-profile arrival at the end of 2018.
