St Kilda great Nick Riewoldt says Tom Lynch’s hearing at the Tribunal on Monday night was “a bit of a waste of time”.
Lynch’s striking charge on Essendon defender Michael Hurley was thrown out after the Tribunal deemed the push to Hurley’s chest was insufficient force that didn't warrant a suspension.
Riewoldt has lost faith in Match Review Officer Michael Christian after he referred the incident to the Tribunal based on Lynch’s three prior charges this season.
“It was a bit of a waste of time,” Riewoldt told Fox Footy's On The Couch.
“It was bizarre on the day the AFL had swept the broom through their own offices and a heap of people have lost their jobs that we would waste time and money on something like this.
“If you look at it in isolation it was absolutely clear Tom Lynch was never going to get a week for that incident.
“So it was a complete abdication of responsibility from the MRO. I think it questions the ability to continue in the role next year.”
It means the Tigers spearhead is free to play in Thursday night’s clash against West Coast at Metricon Stadium.
