“A comeback is on the cards” for retired Tiger

Caroline Wilson claims a “comeback is on the cards” for retired Richmond champion Alex Rance.

Rance announced his AFL retirement with immediate effect last December to focus on his family and religion.

The five-time All-Australian played 200 games for the Tigers and was key in helping the club snap a 37-year premiership drought in 2017.

“Alex Rance is a multi-tasker. He was able to live a religious life and be the best defender in the competition for a few years,” Wilson told Channel Nine’s Footy Classified.

“I do think a comeback is on the cards.”

Rance poured cold water on talk of a possible return to football earlier this year after initially saying he was “not going to completely rule out the fact that I could come back”.

Garry Lyon believes Rance will come out of retirement and likely re-join Richmond at some point.

“Yep, I think he’ll play,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“I think he’ll play footy again and probably with Richmond.”

Tim Watson is almost certain that 17 other AFL clubs have been keeping tabs on the 30-year-old.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if 17 other clubs have enquired about where he’s at and what he’s thinking of doing over the next year or two,” Watson said.

“There’s a possibility that he will (come out of retirement). I think that door is still open enough for him possibly to come back and play.”

Rance missed out on Richmond's 2019 premiership after suffering an ACL injury in Round 1.
