Melbourne Victory clean out begins with five departures

Melbourne Victory’s squad overhaul is in full swing.

The Victory have confirmed the departures of five players – including Albanian international Migjen Basha.

Basha has decided to return to Europe with a year remaining on his contract.

Kenny Athiu, Ben Carrigan, Josh Hope and Giancarlo Gallifuoco were all released on Friday as the Victory embark on a new era under newly appointed head coach Grant Brebner.

General Manager of Football Drew Sherman said in a club statement: “We would like to thank Kenny, Ben, Josh and Giancarlo for their contribution to the club.

“On behalf of everyone at Melbourne Victory, I would like to wish them all the best for the next chapter in their football careers.

“The club is currently working through building its roster for next season and we look forward to sharing updates as they become available.”

Striker Andrew Nabbout (Perth Glory) and defender James Donachie (Newcastle Jets) are also set to leave the club.
