Ex-Docker open to continuing career in Victoria

Cam McCarthy is keen to continue his AFL career outside of Western Australia.

McCarthy quit Fremantle in August after being informed he wouldn’t be receiving a contract for the 2021 season.

McCarthy joined the Dockers in 2017 after experiencing homesickness in his final two years at GWS, having sat out the 2016 season.

The 25-year-old forward has suggested that perhaps a club like Collingwood would suit him.

“I’ve always said that from day one, I like Collingwood,” McCarthy told The Western Australian.

“Obviously I wish I would have played for Freo for the rest of my career.

“If I’m not going to play, why would I go back over to another hub and sit there for five weeks?

“JL (Justin Longmuir) is doing a good job down there. They’re going to be a serious side in the next couple of years, trust me.”

The South Fremantle product has booted 99 goals in a stop-start 70-game career.
