Melbourne midfielder Harley Bennell is under investigation for a possible COVID protocol breach, according to the Herald Sun.
Melbourne has alerted the AFL after Bennell partook in a drinking session away from the club’s Queensland hub on Saturday night.
According to the report, Bennell was kept away from his teammates as a precaution after the potential breach was realised.
The 27-year-old featured five times for the Dees in 2020, making his long-awaited return from injury against Carlton in Round 2.
He didn't play in his side's final home and away game against Essendon on Saturday.
See Melbourne's statement below:
"The Melbourne Football Club is aware of a potential breach of the AFL’s COVID-19 protocols involving player Harley Bennell.
"The Club has notified the AFL, who are investigating the matter.
"Whilst the Club and the AFL are in the process of establishing the facts, Harley will remain in an off-site isolation location, to remove any possibility of contaminating the Twin Waters high performance hub.
"As the matter is being investigated, the Club is not in a position to comment further."
