"I thought I showed enough": Young Roo surprised by delisting

North Melbourne is currently overhauling its list, delisting 11 players last week and being open to moving on several more in the trade period.

The likes of Ben Brown, Shaun Higgins and Jared Polec could find new homes for 2021, meaning the Kangaroos’ list will look vastly different next year.

One of the casualties of the list turnover is Lachie Hosie, who played five games in the back half of 2020 after being selected in the mid-season rookie draft last year.

The 23-year-old forward admits he was surprised about his delisting, thinking he had done enough to earn a new contract.

“Yeah I guess (I was) a little (surprised by the decision),” Hosie told SEN SA Breakfast.

“Obviously I would have loved to stick around at North and the time that I had there and the games that I played, I thought I showed enough in my five games in the back end of the year to possibly get another contract and another look at another year in the AFL, but it wasn’t to be.

“To be honest it’s really good being back home and being around family and friends that I haven’t seen for 80 days being stuck up in a hub on the Gold Coast.

“It’s a bit of a change and I guess the reality hasn’t really hit yet, but I guess it’ll sink in over the next couple of weeks and I’m lucky to be around some pretty good people that support me when it does happen.”

Hosie was drafted out of Glenelg in the SANFL were he impressed as a young forward.
