Former Collingwood defender Heath Shaw has looked back on the dramatic drawn Grand Final in 2010 and the “intense” nature of the thrilling contest.
The Magpies and St Kilda could not be separated at the final siren in what was just the second drawn decider in VFL/AFL history.
Shaw admits Collingwood would have been in “big trouble” if the game had gone to extra-time against the fast-finishing Saints.
“When you’re playing in the backline, you don’t want to make a mistake so you’re concentrating fully on not making a mistake,” Shaw told SEN's This Is Your Sporting Life thanks to Tobin Brothers Funerals.
“Or you don’t want to be the guy whose man kicks the winning goal for the opposition. It’s as intense as humanly possible.
“The shock that we got when we drew and the confusion around what was going to happen from then on, it was a fairly intense last quarter.
“To be honest, if they’d played extra-time … then we would have been in big trouble but on the flipside coming back the next week, I couldn’t have been more confident that we were going to win.”
Collingwood won the replay by 56 points the following week.
