A quiet summer is a great summer for Joe Daniher, who is seemingly flying in his first pre-season with the Brisbane Lions.
The key forward joined the Lions as a free agent in a bid to reignite his AFL career and after years ruined by groin injuries at Essendon, he is yet to have a setback.
New Brisbane assistant coach Mark Stone is excited by what he’s seen from the fully fit Daniher over summer.
“Joe’s going really well, which is good because I think he’s going to be so important to us and will add another dimension to our forward half,” Stone told Sportsday SA.
“If he can stay healthy, at the moment he’s doing full training and he’s training extremely well, but if we can keep him on the park he’s going to be so good for Eric Hipwood, Dan McStay and particularly Charlie Cameron.
“To have another focus and another big target that opposition teams have to worry about.”
Stone is also excited by former number one pick Cam Rayner and feels this could be the year he breaks out.
“The one I’d really like to see pop this year is Cam Rayner,” the former SANFL premiership coach said.
“He’s so powerful and explosive and I think as a young man who has carried that number one draftee title, he’s done a really good job of that.
“He’s three or four years in now and I think he’s really ready to explode and become a genuine great player of the competition.
“He’s just a really powerful, quick, explosive player and they seem to be the game breakers in the modern game.”
