Channel Seven has made a call on its flagship footy program

Channel Seven will not be bringing back it’s Monday night AFL show Talking Footy for the 2021 season.

As a result of the COVID pandemic, the broadcaster dumped both Talking Footy and Game Day before 2020.

At the time, Seven said the shows were “temporarily suspended”.

However, Managing Director Lewis Martin confirmed on SEN Breakfast that Talking Footy would not be returning to screens in 2021.

“No (it won’t be back this year), but stand by for a couple of announcements because we’re certainly building into a pretty substantial footy magazine offering across the coverage, but not Talking Footy coming back, no,” Martin said.

The show was usually headlined by our man Tim Watson, Wayne Carey and Luke Darcy.

Bicks drilled down on Adelaide's midfield mix, and Matt Crouch's spot in the side.

Martin said he’s hoping Watson “steps up” this year.

“He’s got to keep his cards close to his chest, because he does have a few cards,” Martin added, tongue in cheek.

To which Watson responded: “Get Lewis to talk to my people and we’ll see if we can’t organise something.”
