Rising star reveals why he chose to represent Queensland despite being born in NSW

Queensland and Gold Coast Titans forward Tino Fa’asuamaleaui has revealed why he chose to represent the Maroons despite being born in New South Wales.

Speaking on SEN 1170 Breakfast, the star forward explained that he considers himself a Queenslander having spent the majority of his life there.

While he was born in Orange, New South Wales, Fa’asuamaleaui soon moved to Widgee, a small town in the Gympie Region of Queensland and represented the state at junior levels.

Fa’asuamaleaui debuted for the Maroons last year in their 2-1 series victory.

“I was born in Orange (New South Wales), but I moved up when I was 14 weeks old,” he said.

“I guess it doesn’t really count, and I played all of my rugby league and grew up in Queensland.

“I’ve always supported Queensland and I love Queensland. I guess that’s why.”

The forward also made a move back to Queensland at club level this year with the Gold Coast Titans having begun his career with the Melbourne Storm.

Fa’asuamaleaui, 21, has a long Origin career ahead of him and Maroons fans will be glad he chose to represent his adopted state.
