Rance to play for local club next weekend

AFL clubs keep asking, but Seymour Football Club has won the race to sign Alex Rance.

At least for one game.

Rance, 31, will come out of retirement to pull on the boots for Seymour next weekend in their home Goulburn Valley Football League game against Mooroopna at Kings Park.

Richmond’s five-time Australian defender will play a key forward role for the Lions against the Cats after Seymour tall Kyle Winter-Irving went down with a season-ending ankle injury.

Rance’s link to the club is its captain and assistant coach Ben Clifton, who works with Rance’s education program, The Academy.

Rance has repeatedly turned his back on an AFL comeback since retiring at the end of 2019.

He also plans to play for C-Grade West Australian side, Swan Valley, where his cousin David Ellard is a playing coach.
