The future of Carlton midfielder Sam Petrevski-Seton has been raised across the last few months, given he is out of contract and currently stuck in the VFL.
The top 10 selection from the 2016 National Draft has played 88 career games and after starting out as an on-baller, the Blues pushed him into defence as both a rebounder and a lockdown defender.
He mostly struggled in the role, though Carlton stubbornly stuck to it, looking to develop others through the middle.
Petrevski-Seton was pushed back onto the wing before being dropped to the VFL and now finds himself back in the midfield at the lower level.
The 23-year-old West Australian native picked up 25 disposals and laid eight tackles in Carlton’s VFL win over Port Melbourne on the weekend and is likely in line for a senior recall.
SEN Chief Reporter Sammy Edmund believes the out of contract Petrevski-Seton is happy at Carlton and not necessarily desiring a move back home.
“Sam Petrevski-Seton has been frozen out of that Carlton side since Round 8 and has been put back in the VFL to play as a midfielder and a forward, which is what Blues fans have been crying out for a long-time, he’s been stationed at half back for so long,” Edmund told SEN Breakfast.
“He is out of contract, he does love Carlton, he loves the club, he isn’t the homesick type, there’s no yearning to get back to WA.
“His camp are assessing his options and a potential home elsewhere should the Blues look to move him on.
“It might depend on who coaches the side or what assistant coaches are employed next year when it comes to his standing in that line-up.”
Carlton takes on Adelaide at Marvel Stadium on Sunday afternoon, while the VFL side prepares for its first encounter with the Northern Bullants since the Blues dumped the historic side from its program last year.
