Franklin learns Tribunal fate after Swans challenge ban

Sydney star Lance Franklin has had his one-match ban for striking overturned at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.

The Swans were successful in appealing Franklin’s suspension for a stray elbow to the head of Fremantle defender Luke Ryan.

Match Review Officer Michael Christian graded the incident as careless, medium impact and high contact.

West Coast premiership player Karl Langdon was particularly scathing on Franklin’s high elbow.

“Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin is Buddy lucky, I reckon,” Langdon said on Sportsday WA.

“Because he’s only copped a one-week offer for striking Luke Ryan, a deliberate back elbow to the head. Gutless as far as I’m concerned.

“When they come out with the penalty and say it was his first offence. Please, mate. He’s had plenty of offences over time and there’s been a few little ones where he’s copped fines earlier in the year.”

Franklin is free to play against Essendon this weekend.
