George Hewett has emerged as a possible trade target for Carlton.
The Sydney midfielder is a chance to leave the Swans at the end of the season after eight years at the SCG.
While Adam Cerra has been strongly linked to a move to Ikon Park, the Blues also have some interest in Hewett.
Hewett, 25, qualifies as a restricted free agent in this year’s exchange period, given he is in the final year of a deal understood to be worth around $500,000 in 2021.
The Swans briefly explored a trade for Hewett last year in the hope they could get something back before he becomes a free agent at the end of this season. Hewett also wanted to stay in Sydney.
A back injury and subsequent surgery derailed his 2020 season and he managed only six games.
But he has featured 17 times for John Longmire’s Swans this year, who continue to push for a top-four spot.
Hewett has grown into a hardworking, accountable midfielder since breaking into the Sydney line-up in 2016 and could hold appeal for the Blues given his defensive-minded approach.
