After a quarter of a century with Lindsay Park, Tom Dabernig is adapting to new training techniques on the beach at Warrnambool.
Having been associated with Lindsay Park for so long, Dabernig is enjoying a new way of life and is sponging off the local trainers.
“The horses have all settled in nicely and we’re getting into a good routine,” Dabernig said on SEN Track’s Bensley.
“The locals have all been nice and accommodating and I couldn’t be happier.
“We’re getting there (beach) twice a week, the horses are a little bit apprehensive but once they’ve been there once or twice, they love it, I think it’ll be a great tool to add to the training.”
Dabernig, who does not expect to be a big player during the spring, hopes to have a runner in the first Group 1 race of the 2021-22 season, the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on August the 28th.
“I can only fit in 15 (horses) and we’ve got a few pencilled in to be coming,” he added.
“He’ll (Fifty Stars) go to Casterton for a jump-out, he’ll benefit from a trip away and a trial.
“He’ll be first-up in the Memsie Stake (Group 1) which is on the 28th of August and he normally takes a run with Caulfield not normally being his most successful race, but it’s a good kick-off for him.”
Dabernig trained a winner at Coleraine on Thursday with Lunatic Fringe saluting in the Wilson’s Real Estate Handicap.
