Brereton’s admission while watching Hawks-Magpies match

Hawthorn got the better of Collingwood by 19 points on Sunday to make it back-to-back wins since coach Alastair Clarkson’s bombshell exit announcement

The Hawks jumped from 17th to 15th on the ladder as they look to avoid this year's wooden spoon – something that’s never happened in Clarkson’s 17 seasons at the helm.

Ball-magnet Tom Mitchell racked up 44 disposals and was well supported through the midfield by Chad Wingard (30) and Jaeger O'Meara (27).

But one person who wasn’t happy with the result was Hawthorn great Dermott Brereton.

“For the first time in my life, I was barracking for the opposition. I did play one year for Collingwood, so I don’t feel too bad about it,” Brereton told SEN’s Bob and Andy.

“I said to Jason Dunstall, ‘can we ring Jeff (Kennett) and get him to march Alastair (Clarkson) out right now’.

“We don’t want to win anymore. We jumped two spots! That’s just the way I felt.

“For the first time it wasn’t tongue-in-cheek with me. I love seeing Hawthorn win, you can’t take that out of the blood of any supporter who loves their team.

“But for the betterment of the club … help us lose this.”

Clarkson’s Hawks go in search of a third straight win when they meet ladder-leaders the Western Bulldogs this weekend.
