The AFL remains hopeful they can play the VFLW Grand Final and complete the VFL season.
With Victoria’s lockdown extended for a further seven days, the competitions loom as a headache for the league, particularly with just one game left in the VFLW season.
The Leader’s Paul Amy is reporting that the current aim is for one more round of the VFL season across the weekend of August 21-22 before a four-week finals series.
The ladder will be adjusted and determined based on win percentage, given some teams have played more games than others.
Similarly, they are hopeful that the VFLW Grand Final is played in that same weekend.
The Victorian government rejected a proposal from the AFL for VFL and VFLW players to be tested last week, allowing for games to go ahead behind closed doors.
It’s been a turbulent VFLW finals series, with both the prelims and the Grand Final postponed and pushed back due to lockdown.
Collingwood is set to meet Geelong in the decider, with the Pies looking to go back to back.
VFL teams have all played between nine and 11 games, with closed borders likely to make it even harder for teams like GWS and Southport, who are currently both inside the top eight.
VFL update: AFL officials met clubs today. They're aiming for a final round next weekend (Aug 21-22) and to kick off a four-week finals series for the top eight teams on August 28. They're hoping to get the VFLW grand final played next weekend too.

And here's how the @VFL ladder currently shakes out when you reconfigure it on Winning Percentage. Collingwood would jump in at Frankston's expense.
