Carlton announced on Tuesday that veteran forward Levi Casboult will depart the club at the end of the season after not being offered a new contract.
The 31-year-old has played 153 games over the course of 10 seasons at Ikon Park and will feature in the navy blue for the last time this weekend.
Attention has quickly turned as to which club could potentially offer Casboult a lifeline at AFL level, with The Age recently reporting that Gold Coast had shown some early interest as they look for more experience across the board.
Garry Lyon said that while his recruitment could be a shrewd move, it may “sound strange” after the Suns let a similar tall marking target in Peter Wright leave at the end of 2020.
“I think it might not be a bad option to give them some support but it sounds strange given Peter Wright was there and is now gone,” he said on SEN Breakfast.
“Zac Smith is retired and maybe he goes up there to play a bit of grunt yards into the forward 50 and to take a bit of pressure off Ben King.”
Casboult joins Eddie Betts and Marc Murphy (both retiring) in departing the club at the end of the current season.
