GWS star Toby Greene says that his contact made with umpire Matt Stevic during his side’s qualifying final win wasn't intentional.
Vision showed Greene walking straight into Stevic and then verbally argue heading into the final break, but following the Giants’ victory, Greene said that he "certainly" didn't mean to make contact.
“I don’t know what it was. It was just in the moment and certainly would never touch him,” Greene told Channel 7 post-game.
“I was just talking to him about something in the game, but yeah.”
Giants coach Leon Cameron also views the altercation as unintentional and backed his vice-captain post-match.
“I just had a quick look on the way in guys (and) very hard for me to comment on it, clearly it’s a talking point, but all I know is that it wouldn’t have been intentional,” Cameron said.
“I love the way he goes about things, I know he’s a talked about player, but I’d really like to hone in on the positive stuff.
“I thought his first three quarters were unbelievable.
2020 Brownlow Medallist Lachie Neale escaped a ban for a similiar incident earlier in the year and Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury believes that Greene's less "aggressive" action should have the same result.
However, intentional contact with an umpire is an offence that can be referred directly to the AFL Tribunal by the MRO, so if deemed deliberate, the fiery forward could be in strife for next week’s semi final.
