“Classy” Manu accepts Mitchell’s apology for vicious high-shot

Sydney Roosters centre Joey Manu has forgiven Latrell Mitchell for the ugly high-shot that ended his season.

With the collision forcing surgeons to use three metallic plates and 12 screws to repair his fractured cheekbone, one would assume it’d be fair for Manu to hold a grudge.

But, with the pair having won a premiership together during their time as teammates, Manu told The Daily Telegraph that it’s “time to move on”.

“I was gutted when it happened but it’s time to let it go and everyone move on,” Manu told The Telegraph.

“I’m doing well, I’m feeling heaps better and just on Panadol for the pain.

“The support I’ve had from Roosters fans and other clubs for that matter has been overwhelming. I couldn’t be more grateful.

“Latrell reached out to me straight after the game and apologised.

“I replied to him and checked he was all right. He’s copped a bit of criticism and stuff. He’s got family too. It’s tough to see how much he’s been copping and I wish him all the best.

“He’s been a mate of mine for a long time and still is.”

Joining SEN 1170 Breakfast, The Telegraph’s David Riccio described Manu’s gesture as a “classy” act.

“Yeah, classy from Joey Manu, absolutely,” Riccio said.

“He admitted to Buzz (Rothfield) that it’s time to let it go and it’s time to move on.

“He also spoke about Latrell sending him a text message straight after the game and apologising.

“I love this, Manu replied and checked if he was alright, checked if Latrell was alright.

“He understands that criticism and spotlight that Latrell plays under.

“Again, I thought it was pretty classy from Joey Manu.”

Manu will remain with the team in Queensland as they embark on the finals series, with the centre hoping to help the coaching staff while on the sidelines.
