Injured Cat still a chance for Grand Final return

Geelong defender Mark Blicavs believes partner in crime Tom Stewart is still a chance to play in this year’s Grand Final, if the Cats are to make it that far in 2021.

Stewart, 28, suffered a foot injury during training before the Cats’ Round 22 game, requiring surgery on his lisfranc ligament that was expected to rule him out for the season.

However, Blicavs believes his fellow defender is getting fitter by the week, saying he can’t be ruled out of playing the Grand Final if the club were to make it.

“Stewart won’t be in next week, but he’s moving really well and he’s always set his sights on if we were to make the Grand Final, (so) who knows,” Blicavs told SEN's Crunch Time.

“He’s rehabbing really hard.”

Geelong lost Brandon Parfitt during Friday night’s win over the Giants, but the Cats vice-captain says his team have trained all year for similar scenarios.

“Parfitt hurt his hammy last night… We’ve spoken about it the whole season, we’re trying to stay really healthy and we’ve got a great depth of list, so if someone was to go out we’ll be able to replace them and fix that hole,” Blicavs said.

“It’s a pretty stable team.”

Blicavs, who was swung back to prop up Geelong's defence on Friday night, was crucial in keeping the Giants to just 68 points.

The Cats will play Melbourne in next week’s Preliminary Final at Optus Stadium.
