Port Adelaide GM of Football Chris Davies has hinted the club is unlikely to change the team heading into Saturday night’s Preliminary Final against the Western Bulldogs.
The Power earned themselves a week off by crushing Geelong in the first week of finals, allowing time for multiple players to get fit for a potential recall.
The Port Adelaide Magpies played in the SANFL on Saturday, with numerous AFL listed players returning off the injury list.
“Most importantly, the guys who needed to have a run got through the game well… It was great to see Mitch Georgiades, Lachlan Jones got through, Hamish Hartlett, Tom Clurey importantly,” Davies told SEN SA Breakfast.
“That group of guys there who would consider themselves next in line to play.”
Of the quartet, Georgiades - who was returning from a hamstring strain suffered in Round 23 - would be considered the most likely to return, having kicked 32 goals in his 22 games in 2021.
However, the key forward wasn’t at his best in the SANFL on Saturday, kicking one goal from nine touches.
“First and foremost (for Georgiades) was getting through the game in full,” Davies said.
“The coaches would have liked to see him perform well in order to make their decision harder, they will now spend the next couple of days thinking about what our team needs to look like for Saturday night.”
“I can’t imagine that it’s going to change much from the last game… At the end of the day the players that played in the last game performed really well for us.”
Port Adelaide will be looking to make their first Grand Final since 2007 with a win over the Bulldogs on Saturday night.
