Voss is “well and truly” ready to be Carlton's next senior coach

Port Adelaide GM of football Chris Davies has endorsed Michael Voss for the Carlton coaching position, saying he’s “well and truly ready”.

The Brisbane great has been an assistant at the Power ever since his sacking as head coach of the Lions in 2013, working with Davies for the entire duration.

Davies believes Voss has grown into a better coach during his time at the club and has been able to develop key relationships in his tenure.

“Michael continues to do everything he possibly can to grow himself as a coach and a leader amongst his peers,” he told SEN's Dwayne's World.

“He spends a copious amount of time looking for feedback on the way he goes about things, he’s certainly well aware of what his strengths are.

“He’s been a great foil for Ken (Hinkley) in talking through issues and as you heard from Ollie (Wines) he’s been a great mentor to a lot of our more senior players who have been around for a period of time now.”

Fox Footy’s Tom Morris reported earlier on Monday that Voss was Carlton’s preferred candidate for the role, barring any potential backflip from master coach Alastair Clarkson.

Davies confirmed Voss is at the “pointy end” of the process to become the next coach of the Blues, and said the club would be happy for their assistant coach to leave in that role.

“As a club, we couldn’t be more supportive of Michael chasing what he wants, which is to be a senior coach again,” Davies said.

“I think Michael is well and truly ready.

“He’s at the pointy end of the Carlton process and I think he’d be a fantastic senior coach again.”

The Herald Sun also reported that Voss had landed in Melbourne on Sunday to meet with Carlton, however Davies said the 46-year old is in South Australia.
