Should Port Adelaide target Daniel Talia to bolster their key defensive stocks?
Talia, 29, is currently without a club after not being offered a new contract by Adelaide and is available as a delisted free agent.
Power champion Kane Cornes says his former club should at least have a conversation with Talia and his management about a potential move to Alberton.
Cornes added that he doubts the dual All-Australian would move to Port Adelaide after playing 200 games for arch-rivals the Crows.
“We’ve had a number of Port fans say one of the areas of weakness is a key defender,” he told SEN SA Breakfast.
“He (Aliir Aliir) doesn’t defend one-on-one, he’s solid in that space but he’s more your attacking flair off half-back, as we’ve seen.
“Is Daniel Talia an upgrade on Trent McKenzie would be the question that Port Adelaide would be asking themselves right now.
“You can get him for nothing. He’s not going to cost you a big wage.

“I know they’ve got a few defenders back there, but they don’t have one of the size and the defensive capacities of Daniel Talia, so that Aaron Naughton doesn’t get a hold of them in a final, so that Tom Hawkins or Jeremy Cameron don’t get a hold of them in a final.
“It doesn’t happen though that players go from Adelaide to Port Adelaide and vice versa, it certainly doesn’t happen very regularly at all, and players are reluctant to do it.
“But the fact that he wants to stay in South Australia, I’d be having that conversation with him, I’d be getting a medical done on him, and he wouldn’t be the worst pick up for Port Adelaide.
“We’ve seen what Richmond have done with Robbie Tarrant, he (Talia) is younger than Tarrant and he’s just not going to cost you anything. You know he’s a good character, he’s a good leader.
“I don’t think it’ll happen, but I’d be definitely having that conversation.”
Knee and foot problems sidelined Talia for the entire 2021 season.
