The ratings are in for Saturday night’s AFL Grand Final, with 3.909 million nationally watching Melbourne defeat the Western Bulldogs.
That figure included 3.006 million in metro markets, up from 2.979 million in 2020.
Overall, this year’s audience was nearly 100,000 more than 2020’s decider between Richmond and Geelong.
The figure is the biggest since the 2016 Grand Final between the Bulldogs and Swans.
810,000 viewers also tuned in nationally to watch the Melbourne Storm v Penrith Panthers NRL Preliminary Final.
