Silvagni’s snapshot of Petrevski-Seton, Cerra, Cox, vandenBerg and more

Former Carlton list manager Stephen Silvagni has given his early thoughts on a number of players who are being spoken about in trade circles.

SOS provided a snapshot on the likes of Sam Petrevski-Seton, Adam Cerra, Mason Cox, Patrick Lipinski and Aaron vandenBerg plus many more.

Read his thoughts below:

Sam Petrevski-Seton

“There’s some talk he still wants to remain with the club (Carlton). So whether Michael Voss can talk him around.

“I would say try and keep him. When we recruited him he was a forward-mid or a mid-forward and he’s played a lot of his footy over the last two years down back.”

Adam Cerra

“I think their first pick will get that done. There’s no doubt Freo - and that’s if he nominates Carlton, I don’t know whether he has or hasn’t - would want more than their first pick.

“To be honest, I don’t know what this draft holds in terms of where Carlton’s pick is. It’s what’s in that draft, what can I get with pick 6?

“Is there a really good player there who we think can be better than Adam Cerra?”

Mason Cox

“I think he’s handy for someone. I don’t think you’d have to give up much to get him if anything.

“He might go in the pre-season draft or as a delisted free agent.”

Jeremy Finlayson and Tim O’Brien

“I think it tells you that they’re worried about a third tall or one of their tails going down at some stage through the year, so they need some backup.

“We know (Charlie) Dixon and you’ve got (Todd) Marshall up in the forward line, so it’s whether they’re looking at them (Finlayson and O’Brien) as a forward or a back.

“I would think forward, so is it a backup for one of those two players if one of them gets injured through the year.”

Patrick Lipinski

“I don’t mind him as a player, I haven’t seen a lot of him.

“We didn’t have him in our top 10 or 20 (as an Under-18), but he certainly would have been in the top 50.”

Jordan Dawson
On choosing Adelaide over Port Adelaide

“It may have got down to money.

“It really depends on the terms of the contract and where he sees things.”

Aaron vandenBerg
On finding a new club

“I think so. If he wants to go out and search for a club.

“It’s going to be very interesting whether these guys get clubs during the trade period or does it happen once the national draft is over. You’ve got the pre-season selections as well, so it’s going to be interesting when these players actually get listed at other clubs.”

Luke Dunstan

“I think he’s good enough to be on a list. He’s shown that he can actually play AFL footy.

“It is really interesting the mix of midfielders that clubs would like.”

Jarrod Brander

“He would have clubs looking at him.

“I look at his competitiveness a little bit and just question that.

“There’s a reason why West Coast would be letting him go. That’s the question mark.”

On midfielders

“Everyone is going to look at Melbourne, they’re going to try and get a Petracca through the door, they want an Oliver.

“How are you going to get that mix?

“That’s what clubs tend to look at, they tend to look at the Grand Final teams.

“So how many of those big bulls, are they quick enough, have they got explosive speed.”
