Lewis Young’s manager Peter Rohde has confirmed that the young Dog's trade to Carlton should go through on Thursday and has revealed what it is likely to include.
Young, 22, requested a trade to Carlton earlier this week, having only played 24 games in four years at the Dogs.
The Western Bulldogs were reportedly keen to keep Young and had offered him a two-year deal to stay, however, he chose Carlton because of their need for key defenders and a likelihood of senior opportunities.
Rohde confirmed the trade was almost complete, with a potential Bulldogs pick shuffle the only thing standing in the way.
“I think he will (get to Carlton today),” Rohde said on AFL Trade Radio’s The Early Trade.
“I think they’ve already agreed on a pick, but I think the Bulldogs are doing a few other moves with their picks beforehand, so we’ve got a couple of ways to get it done and hopefully it’ll stay clear of involvement with any other deals and it’ll all progress through today.
“I’m very confident by the end of today Lewis will find his way to Carlton.
Carlton has picks six, 25, 64, and 82 in the AFL National Draft, and Rhode believes somewhere around the Blues’ third pick will get the job done.
“I think they’ll shuffle some picks around, I think they (Carlton) are also likely to get something back for Sam Petrevski-Seton, so it might involve that pick,” he said.
“He was pick 49 originally when he was drafted, he’s played 20 odd games in four years so I think he’s still got around that value, I would imagine that something like that will get done.”
“He played seven or eight games in his first year, his career hasn’t really gone forward over the time.
“He’s played a little bit forward; he’s played in the ruck to help out and he’s played down back. He certainly seems himself as a key defender … and Carlton have a need there going forward.”
The Blues recently appointed Michael Voss as their new coach and have a renewed focus on the defensive side of the game.
