Geelong has spoken to Ross Lyon about joining the club in a coaching role for 2022, according to the Herald Sun’s Jay Clark.
Lyon has reportedly talked to Cats coach Chris Scott about becoming a coaching director or assisting in a strategy role next season.
The former Fremantle and St Kilda coach was the frontrunner for the Carlton coaching job that was later filled by Michael Voss, before pulling out of the race.
The Cats have been criticised for their slow brand of football under Scott, which has regularly been exposed in finals throughout his tenure.
They made the Grand Final last year before losing to Richmond, their first appearance on the big stage since 2011, despite missing finals just once in that time.
An appointment of Lyon would bring needed experience to the club’s coaching ranks after multiple assistants left at the conclusion of the 2021 season.
Cats great James Kelly and Carlton champion Eddie Betts recently joined the club as part of its new-look coaching panel.
