Queensland clubs begin quest to bring Parramatta star home

Parramatta dummy-half Reed Mahoney could be entering his last season with the Eels as he looks to sure up his future beyond 2023.

As one of the game’s best hookers, Mahoney, 23, has attracted interest from a raft of Queensland based clubs looking to lure him home.

With formal contract offers for 2023 and beyond set to be offered from November 1 this year, Mahoney will have his choice between potentially three rival suitors according to The Daily Telegraph’s Michael Carayannis.

“He (Mahoney) has emerged as the hottest prospect at the Eels,” Carayannis said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“They’ve got a stack of players off-contract (at the end of 2022) and they’re not going to be able to keep able of them, there’s no doubt about that.

“Reed’s already met with the Broncos, that’s interesting, he would’ve played for Queensland this year (barring injury).

“The Dolphins are keen on him as well, the Titans have had informal interest.

“Three of the four Queensland clubs have an interest in Reed for 2023 so I dare say this is his last season at the Eels.”

Mahoney could be one of multiple Eels headed for new homes from 2023 with Clint Gutherson, Maika Sivo, Isaiah Papali’i, Junior Paulo and Marate Niukore also coming off contract at the same time.
